Information for Youth

Youth Empowerment Teams

As a substance abuse and violence prevention program, YET (Youth Empowerment Teams) seeks to empower youth to take on community issues by:

  • Providing students with the information that will allow them to form a point of view,
  • Providing them with the skills to take action to change something that they are not satisfied with, and then,
  • Creating the opportunities to put those skills to work in order to create change.

STAR and RMS Y2Y teams empower students to take an active role in drug-prevention initiatives throughout Rochester.

Each Youth Empowerment Team takes on different types of prevention activities and the members of the teams help to decide which projects their team will get involved in throughout the year.

There are 5 main categories of prevention projects that students can take part in:

  • Media productions, particularly creating radio ads.
  •  Presentations at schools, conferences and other locations.
  • Community and School Awareness Programs.
  • Enforcement initiatives such as compliance checks.
  • Legislative efforts at the local or state level.
